Black-backed Woodpecker

Black-backed Woodpecker
Location: Mt. Bisbee Rd. Washington

Information: Occasionally if your area is in the boreal range these woodpecker can be found in newly burnt forests.

Identification: The entire black back is a shoe in for identification as well as the yellow on the top of the head on the males. I personally was shocked to see this fellow who seemed much more chubbier than the other woodpeckers I’ve ran into. I’m hoping next time to get better shots of this bird with articus in the name, so named because it spends the majority of it’s life in the boreal forests.
